West Virginia University Board of Governors Vice-Chair and Presidential Search Committee Chair Dr. Patrice Harris sent the following letter to members of the University community Wednesday (Aug. 7), providing an update on the presidential search process.

Aug. 7, 2024

Dear West Virginia University Community,

I am writing to share the next steps in our search for the next President of West Virginia University.

As noted in earlier communications, the WVU Board of Governors is committed to engagement and input from the University Community. We have developed an inclusive series of Listening Sessions to engage members of our community in determining the most important attributes of our next president. The first of these Listening Sessions, conducted by our partners from WittKieffer, was held last month with the Faculty Senate Leadership.

Today, I invite you to participate in one of the virtual or in-person Listening Sessions planned through mid-September. Please plan to attend the session that best matches your constituency. Location and login information for virtual sessions will be shared closer to each date.

Virtual opportunities for alumni are being coordinated through the WVU Alumni Association. Details will be shared in the coming days and in future editions of the Alumni Newsletter. Alumni should feel free to attend an in-person session that best matches their constituency, i.e. a Faculty, Staff or Community session.

     1.    What do you see as the key attractions for this leadership opportunity? What makes you proud to be part of the WVU community and excited about the future?

     2.    What are the skill sets, experiences, qualifications, credentials and personal attributes needed in the next President?

     3.    What are the key opportunities and challenges facing West Virginia University? How should the new President seek to capitalize on or address them?

If you are unable to attend one of the virtual or in-person sessions, you still have an opportunity for input by completing the survey available at presidentialsearch.wvu.edu.

Your input will be invaluable as the Search Committee and BOG develop the expectations for the position, as well as the leadership profile that will attract top presidential candidates to our University. We look forward to hearing your insights.
