However, for one student, in addition to all that, there’s 960,000 employees dependent on him to maintain maximum efficiency in his business. The employees? Well, they’re honeybees, and not only is his profit margin at stake, but also an increasingly critical part of ecology — pollination.

WVU volleyball moves on to NIVC Elite Eight

Notching its second sweep in two days, the volleyball team downed Temple in the second round of the National Invitational Volleyball Championship on Wednesday evening at the WVU Coliseum in Morgantown. The Mountaineers will host the third round of the NIVC Tournament on Monday (Dec. 4) at 6 p.m. inside the WVU Coliseum.

WVU students receive NASA Space Grant fellowships

Five students from the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences at West Virginia University have been awarded undergraduate fellowships from the NASA West Virginia Space Grant Consortium. Each student will receive a $1,000 award – $500 from the Eberly College and $500 from the West Virginia Space Grant Consortium, a NASA-sponsored organization. The recipients are Ryan Culp, Ben Gregg, Andrew McGrady, Holly Pettus and Emma Sherfinski.

Mike Carey honored in his hometown

West Virginia University women's basketball coach Mike Carey was honored in his hometown of Clarksburg on Tuesday afternoon. Mayor Catherine Goings unveiled a sign dedicated to Carey on behalf of the city during a ceremony at Jackson Square. The sign will be permanently displayed on the Hewes Ave parking structure above U.S. Route 50.

WVU sweeps UMES, advances in national tournament

The West Virginia University volleyball team advanced to the second round of the National Invitational Volleyball Championship with a 3-0 win over Maryland Eastern Shore Tuesday evening inside the WVU Coliseum. West Virginia will face Temple on Wednesday, Nov. 29, at 6 p.m., at the WVU Coliseum.

Leidos gift to support student involvement, research efforts at WVU

The grant was made through the WVU Foundation and will be used to continue research funding on topics like blockchain technology, and population health data management, which attempts to investigate and alleviate the health problems that ail the state.

Conventional diabetes medications tend to fix downstream problems, meaning they typically work by stabilizing blood sugar levels, not by improving the chemical processes that underlie how the body makes and processes blood sugar in the first place. A West Virginia University graduate student is working to change that by studying an unexplored enzyme.

WVU’s Valenti named IEEE Fellow

Matthew Valenti, professor in the Lane Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering at West Virginia University, has been named a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. The IEEE is the world's largest technical professional organization whose mission is to encourage its members to revolutionize technology for the benefit of humanity.
