WVU BOG elects new officers

The West Virginia University Board of Governors is announcing its officers for the 2024-25 term. Experienced members serving in leadership are Richard “Rick” Pill, elected as BOG chair, Dr. Patrice Harris, elected as vice chair, and Robert “Bob” Reynolds, elected as secretary.

WVU graduate joins Country Roads staff after creating peer mentor workbook for capstone project

A graduate of the West Virginia University School of Medicine is building on her educational experience in her new job. An Occupational Therapy Doctorate graduate, Taylor Grout partnered with the Country Roads program at the WVU Center for Excellence in Disabilities — now her employer — for her capstone project, developing a workbook for volunteer peer mentors to better assist the program’s students who have intellectual and/or developmental disabilities.

WVU School of Pharmacy professor receives highest gubernatorial honor

West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice recently presented Dr. Elizabeth Scharman, professor emerita at the West Virginia University School of Pharmacy, with the 2024 Distinguished Mountaineer Award. This award is the highest honor the Governor can bestow upon a non-native West Virginian and was given to Scharman following 32 years of service to the West Virginia Poison Center.

WVU widens service area to assist pregnant women, parenting families

A West Virginia University-led effort is extending its reach to 11 Mountain State counties, providing more low-income pregnant women and families with children access to health care and life skills through the West Virginia Healthy Start/Helping Appalachian Parents and Infants — HAPI — project.

WV Division of Highways to consider WVU student design recommendations for new Morgantown bridges

For a senior capstone course, one group of students in the West Virginia University Benjamin M. Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources Wadsworth Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering focused on replacing the Scotts Run bridge on Lazzelle Union Road, while a second group worked on designing a replacement for the Fieldcrest Bridge that passes over West Run Road.
