West Virginia University is launching WVU Guarantee — a new program that will provide funding to cover the costs of tuition and University fees for qualifying incoming and current West Virginia students beginning this fall.
The program is open to resident undergraduate students across the WVU System, including at WVU Morgantown, WVU Institute of Technology and WVU Potomac State College, with a family adjusted gross income of $65,000 or less who annually complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.
Once their FAFSAs are submitted, students are automatically evaluated for eligibility in WVU Guarantee and no further action is necessary.
Should a student’s family AGI rise above the $65,000 threshold after their initial enrollment as an undergraduate, the University will continue to honor the program’s benefits.
WVU Guarantee is a last-dollar-in program working in combination with other scholarships and aid to further remove barriers and ease students’ and families’ financial burdens, according to Steve Hahn, interim vice president for Enrollment Management.
Hahn added that this initiative builds on the positive momentum the University is experiencing right now in student applications, which are up about 16% when compared to this time last year in the enrollment cycle.
“By presenting greater accessibility and affordability to any West Virginian with aspirations to pursue higher education, we hope to take price considerations out of the decision for even more students to attend and complete college,” Hahn said.
Students must complete the FAFSA by Aug. 1 for the Fall 2025 semester. The WVU Hub is ready to help students who have questions about the process or how to fill out the FAFSA. There is not a separate application for the WVU Guarantee program.
“WVU Guarantee is a critical investment in our access mission and the development of the next generation of West Virginia’s leaders, field experts, researchers and entrepreneurs,” said Vice Provost Mark Gavin, who oversees areas including academic budgets and strategic initiatives, among others, in the Office of the Provost.
“In doing so, we are guaranteeing access to extraordinary, challenging, life-changing experiences for our students — whether they’re choosing WVU for the first time or returning home.”
