Five distinguished West Virginia University graduates, whose accomplishments span communications, business, leadership, music and nursing, will be inducted into the Academy of Distinguished Alumni during a Feb. 7 ceremony at the Erickson Alumni Center in Morgantown.

WVU researchers testing antibody to treat drug-resistant bacteria

West Virginia University microbiologists have identified an antibody that can kill one of the most drug-resistant bacteria. Now, supported by a $3.5 million grant from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, they want to determine whether it can be combined with other antibiotics to produce a potent treatment against infection.

WVU Alert: WVU Morgantown Campus in-person classes to start late Wednesday (Jan. 22)

In-person classes on the West Virginia University Morgantown Campus will begin later in the day for a second day Wednesday (Jan. 22) due to ongoing frigid temperatures and icy conditions. In-person classes will start at 10 a.m. All in-person classes prior to that time are canceled. All other on-campus operations will continue as scheduled.

Call it a slam dunk: West Virginia University is scoring new opportunities for students to pursue and complete their degrees with a $5 million gift from Steve Ballmer, chairman of the NBA’s Los Angeles Clippers, and his wife, Connie, honoring late Mountaineer great Jerry West. The announcement coincides with Jerry West Day, a celebration of West’s memory and legacy at the WVU men’s basketball game Saturday (Jan. 18) versus Iowa State.
