The end of an era, the start of a legacy

Thousands of students and hundreds of faculty have passed through the West Virginia University School of Music during the 50-plus years Dr. James Miltenberger has been teaching piano there. While his final faculty performance with the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra will be April 20, his legacy will live on through a piano scholarship in his name.

WVU students and faculty focus on service and learning during international trips

West Virginia University students and faculty participate in service projects and learning events around the world, immersing themselves in a different culture and human experience. Recent examples include: a trip to Nicaragua where students provided care and distributed medical and dental supplies; others went to Timor-Leste to experience nation building in one of the world’s newest countries; and another group traveled to the Royal University for Women in Bahrain to debate the role of multiculturalism in social order.

WVU to join nation in ‘Celebrating Einstein’

See Einstein’s theory of relativity come to life through interpretive dance and a symphony performance, both titled “A Shout Across Time,” during West Virginia University’s Eberly College of Arts and Sciences month-long “Celebrating Einstein.” Friday (March 31) kicks off the month-long celebration that includes a series of lectures, nightly rooftop telescope observing events, robotics and the Space Race Fun Run.

WVU Experimental Rocketry team taking off for competitions

West Virginia University’s Experimental Rocketry team is preparing to take off for competition at the Spaceport America Cup in Las Cruces, New Mexico, where it will compete against 110 teams from 11 countries. The team has built its own 12-foot fiber glass rocket designed to carry 8.8 pounds of payload 10,000 feet into the sky, which it will test next month at a Tripoli Rocketry Association event.

Diversity strengthens WVU international student experience, creates future ambassadors

As attention on international students attending U.S. universities has increased in the wake of proposed travel bans, West Virginia University students can speak to their experiences on campus and in the surrounding communities. International students not only promote diversity at WVU, they bring a different world view to campus and take their Mountaineer experience home with them, becoming valuable ambassadors.

WVU Extension has advice for flood events and cleanup

Floods are the most common and widespread of all natural disasters except for fire. As flood waters rise in many West Virginia towns, West Virginia University Extension Service agents and specialists can offer information to help families prepare for and recover from floods.
