WVU celebrates history of health care in West Virginia with dedication of William A. Neal Museum of the Health Sciences

WHAT: West Virginia University Libraries and WVU Health Sciences will hold a dedication ceremony to celebrate the opening of the William A. Neal Museum of the Health Sciences. The ceremony will include remarks, a ribbon-cutting, portrait unveiling, reception and self-guided tours of the museum.

WHO: Gordon Gee, president, WVU; Dr. Clay Marsh, chancellor and executive dean, WVU Health Sciences; Karen Diaz, dean, WVU Libraries; Dr. Larry Schwab, professor and alumnus, WVU School of Medicine; Beth Neal Gonzales, daughter of Dr. Bill Neal; and Dr. Lawrence Krames, portrait artist and alumnus, WVU School of Medicine. 

WHEN: Friday, Oct. 28, Ceremony at 2 p.m.; Tours at 3 p.m. 

WHERE: WVU Health Sciences Center Pylons commons area (first floor), One Medical Center Drive, Morgantown 

NOTES: The William A. Neal Museum of the Health Sciences showcases the history of health care in West Virginia and Appalachia, and documents the impact that WVU’s Schools of Medicine, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Nursing and Public Health have had during the course of 150 years, on the region, across the U.S. and around the world.

The museum includes display space for health-related artifacts, rare manuscripts and other holdings from the West Virginia and Regional History Center at WVU Libraries, and other items provided by faculty, alumni and friends of the University. The space also includes a multimedia theater.
