WVU’s Statler College to host Senior Design Expo

Students in the Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources at West Virginia University will learn how to communicate critical aspects of technical projects during the annual Senior Design Expo. Students will demonstrate their capstone projects and answer questions from attendees related to their devices. More than 20 capstone projects, including a language translation device, smart refrigerator and class attendance app, will be exhibited.

WVU expert: End of net neutrality would give ISPs power over online content, speed

As the Federal Communications Commission prepares to end Internet neutrality, Internet service providers will become gatekeepers with the power to block or slow online content—or to offer preferred services to certain websites, according to a West Virginia University expert. ISPs may not take advantage of their new-found power quickly, but the development of tiered Internet plans, meaning websites would have to pay more for better service, could be on the horizon, she said.

Remember youth who have aged out of the foster care system during the holidays

The holidays can be a difficult time for many, but for young people who have aged out of foster care it can be particularly rough. The MODIFY Program with the WVU Center for Excellence in Disabilities (WVU CED) is accepting donations for holiday gifts to be given to youth ages 17-23 who have aged out of foster care.

WVU, community groups to host screening of ‘Heroin(e)’ documentary and discussion on opioid epidemic

WVU is co-sponsoring a community screening of the Netflix original short documentary “Heroin(e),” followed by a moderated panel discussion. School of Public Health Dean Dr. Jeffrey Coben will moderate the discussion. Panelists include Laura Jones, director of Milan Puskar Health Right; Dr. James Berry, WVU associate professor and director of addictions and medical director at the WVU Medicine Chestnut Ridge Center; Dr. Cathy Yura, director of the WVU Collegiate Recovery Program; Edward Preston, Chief of Police in Morgantown; and filmmaker Elaine Sheldon.

WVU dentistry students focus on rural care and outreach

West Virginia University’s School of Dentistry fourth-year dentistry students have traveled throughout the state to bring healthy lifestyle choices to rural areas. Over the course of a year, dental students performed more than 17,000 clinical procedures.

Statler College to host Project Lead the Way State Conference

WVU’s Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources will host more than 100 students, teachers and administrators from across the state for the Project Lead the Way State from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 13. PLTW is a nonprofit organization that provides science, technology, engineering and math curriculum and professional development opportunities to K-12 teachers. WVU Collegiate Gaming Club to host first eSports Tournament

West Virginia University will be hosting the first eSports tournament and gamers’ paradise after-party. Students across the East Coast will play the most popular eSports game, League of Legends, for the Eastern Esports Conference championship. Both the regional conference and the ACEL were founded by current WVU Collegiate Gaming Club.
