Gov. Jim Justice today (July 3) issued executive orders declaring July 5, 2019 as an official holiday for State employees. The University has modified its holiday calendar to include an additional 7.5-hour “floating” holiday (pro-rated by FTE) for leave-eligible employees, effective July 5, 2019. WVU will operate on a normal schedule, including classes, Friday, July 5.

Classes will be delayed an additional hour on West Virginia University’s Morgantown campus Monday (March 4) due to inclement weather and road conditions. However, the remainder of the University, including buses, will operate on a normal schedule. The West Virginia University Board of Governors today (Feb. 8) gave final approval to a trio of updated policies, and also sent out for comment the latest updated rule as it works to complete policy revisions in the wake of the adoption of laws permitting more independence from the state Higher Education Policy Commission. The three rules, unanimously approved, deal with conflicts of interest, outside consulting and ethics; identify theft detection and prevention; and a tobacco-free campus.

West Virginia will see bitterly cold weather in the next couple of days. Temperatures will dip to single digits with negative wind chill factors predicted in some areas. West Virginia University officials urge students, faculty and staff to be prepared to avoid the dangers of frostbite and hypothermia. These conditions can occur in a matter of minutes.

They are veterans of the United States Armed Forces, and their journeys beyond the military have stretched to the campus of WVU.

West Virginia University today (Nov. 15) placed a number of students on interim suspension, and additional students may face disciplinary action, related to events that occurred at the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity house Nov. 10, 2018. The Sigma Alpha Epsilon chapter has also been placed on interim suspension.

As part of its continued commitment to culture change and student safety, West Virginia University will offer Interfraternity Council members in good standing an exemption process for a second membership intake period to be held under strict guidelines.

A former student leader with 40 years of industry experience and his philanthropist wife, along with a long-time food service employee, an administrator dedicated to international education, and a devoted financial aid administrator with 33 years of service will be honored for their outstanding contributions to West Virginia University.
