The free community event will allow children and their families the opportunity to touch, sit-in and explore real vehicles from a number of different industries. In additional to a variety of historic and current mining machines, some of the vehicles in attendance will include WVU’s EcoCAR, Morgantown Fire Department Fire Truck, a WVU Mining Extension mobile training unit, Mountaineer Area Rescue Group Mobile Command Post, and WVU Roads, Grounds and Recycling equipment.

New software donated to the West Virginia University Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Design – and created by one of its own alumni – will help forestry students cruise into their careers using the most up-to-date technology. Cruise Control is designed to aid foresters in data collection and processing for forest inventory.

The Civil Rights movement led by Martin Luther King, Jr. is now being carried forward by a new generation. Marjorie Fuller, director of the Center for Black Culture and Research at West Virginia University, and Meshea Poore, vice president of WVU’s Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, believe that as the nation marks the 50th anniversary of King’s assassination, his work is more relevant now than ever.

President Gee will meet with students at two high schools in Fayette County

The West Virginia Humanities Council and the WVU Reed College of Media will present “Path to the Pulitzer: Journalism and the Informed Citizen” April 4 at 7 p.m. in Ming Hsieh Hall. The panel presentation features two award-winning journalists: 2017 Pulitzer winner Eric Eyre of the Charleston Gazette-Mail and Eric Newhouse of Charleston who received a 2000 Pulitzer while with the Great Falls (Montana) Tribune.

Community leaders will have the opportunity to build networks with other leaders from various disciplines throughout the Mountain State. The annual West Virginia University Extension Service Community Leadership Academy conference boasts a comprehensive experience by providing education and motivation. The conference takes place April 11-13 at the Morgantown Marriott at Waterfront Place.

Participants will include experts in industry, government and higher education. Scientists from the WVU Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Design, Benjamin M. Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources, Eberly College of Arts and Sciences, WVU Extension Service and the National Research Center for Coal and Energy will present results of studies ranging from mine drainage to surface and underground mining and reclamation techniques.

Social media users and their habits of sharing their personal information online are at the root of the recent Cambridge Analytica data mining scandal, according to a West Virginia University expert on management information systems. Once information has been freely shared, companies sell the information and others collect it, Stephane Collignon said.

Madelyn Dundon, a sophomore musical theatre major at WVU stars as Grace, a charismatic and riveting teenager with cancer. "Getting Grace" tells the story of what happens when Grace goes into a funeral home to learn about death, only to end up teaching the funeral director about life. The film premieres nationwide on Friday, March 23.

Although Facebook and other social network sites claim they are not media companies, Facebook’s recent data breach with Cambridge Analytica could mean those sites will be regulated like newspapers and television networks, according to Elizabeth Cohen, a social media expert at West Virginia University.
