New cohort of Foundation Scholars chosen

The first members of the West Virginia University Class of 2022 will be honored just two days after the Class of 2018 leaves campus. The WVU Foundation Scholars, the highest academic scholarship the University awards, will be celebrated May 15 during a luncheon hosted by President Gordon Gee at Blaney House.

WVU commencement ceremonies celebrate accomplishments of graduates, alumni, West Virginia natives

Renowned West Virginia novelist Ann Pancake leads the list of honorary degree recipients when West Virginia University sends more than 4,450 graduates into the world the weekend of May 11-13 as commencement ceremonies take place in three venues for 13 colleges and schools. Of those graduates, 3,009 have earned their undergraduate degrees or certificates, 1,110 their master’s degrees and 360 have earned their doctorates.

WVU plans Friday bell-ringing ceremony

West Virginia University will hold a bell-ringing ceremony, coordinated by the Office of Campus and Community Life and Alpha Phi Omega, a national service fraternity, on Friday (April 27) in remembrance of student Colton Hodge.

PRT suspends summer service for modernization and testing

Beginning May 5, West Virginia University’s PRT will be closed for passenger service to continue with automatic train control modernization and to perform other maintenance and testing activities. It is anticipated that normal operations will resume Wednesday, Aug. 1.

WVU consolidates neuroscience research into new department

In a move to help improve people’s lives through innovation in fundamental neuroscience research and education, West Virginia University will bring together some 50 of its laboratories to form a new Department of Neuroscience within the School of Medicine.

New Mountaineer to begin term after April 6 ‘Passing of the Rifle” ceremony

Trevor Kiess will officially begin his reign as the 2018-19 West Virginia University Mountaineer Mascot on Friday (April 6), when current Mountaineer Troy Clemons passes the rifle on to him in a formal ceremony. The ceremony, open to the public, will take place at 4:30 p.m. in the Barnette Room of the Erickson Alumni Center.
