Fraternity and sorority members show higher academic performance than West Virginia University students at large.

Nearly 600 donors contributed $92,000 to the West Virginia University Foundation’s Pride Travel Fund this fall to support the Mountaineer Marching Band.

Students will be better equipped to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing media landscape thanks to a gift from an award winning journalist and West Virginia University alumnus. Bob and Luanne Kittle have been generous contributors to the Reed College of Media for more than 30 years. But their most recent pledge, the largest single donation in College of Media history, will allow them to make an impact on education and journalism in the state earlier than they anticipated.

It’s been five years since Nolan Burch, a freshman at West Virginia University, died after a hazing incident at an unsanctioned fraternity. "Would You?", a new safety campaign asks questions such as, “Would you help those in need? The campaign launched Wednesday night (Nov. 13) with the premiere of the documentary “Breathe, Nolan, Breathe,” which chronicles the events of that night five years ago, and draws attention to the many simple acts that could have changed the outcome.

An institution at West Virginia University for more than 100 years, the Mountaineer Marching Band will one day have a home of its own. WVU and dedicated alumni are working together to pursue a practice facility for the 330-member West Virginia University Mountaineer Marching Band.

West Virginia University has named Patrick Orsagos and Caroline Leadmon the 2019 Mr. and Ms. Mountaineer. A long-time Mountaineer Week tradition, the prestigious award recognizes exemplary academic achievement and extracurricular involvement.

West Virginia University will hold a bell-ringing ceremony, coordinated by the Office of Campus and Community Life and Alpha Phi Omega, a national service fraternity, on Friday (Nov. 8) in remembrance of students Ryan Diviney and Rylee Brunette.

The 2019 honorees are Robert "Bob" and Dorthea "Tia" McMillan, Most Loyal West Virginians; Rhonda Wade, Most Loyal Alumni; Kevin Berry, Most Loyal Faculty/Professional Staff; and Debbie Koon-Friel, Most Loyal Staff Mountaineer. The group will be recognized during the halftime ceremonies of the Saturday, Nov. 9 WVU-Texas Tech football game at Milan Puskar Stadium.

West Virginia University students who have demonstrated exemplary academic performance and extracurricular involvement will compete in one of Mountaineer Week’s oldest traditions—the title of Mr. and Ms. Mountaineer.

A variety of musical performances, a record number of old-time craft demonstrations, new student contests and an ample supply of traditional Appalachian cuisine will be featured as part of West Virginia University’s 72nd Mountaineer Week Nov. 1-9.
