‘Loyal, generous bunch’ gives more than $160 million to WVU

The WVU Foundation says 23,161 donors, including 12,471 alumni, made 46,056 gifts between July 1, 2017 – June 30, 2018 totaling $161,029,056. Only in FY’12 did the Foundation raise more - $173.9 million, a year that included two exceptionally large philanthropic gifts. FY’18 was buoyed by three record months of giving in July ($12.9 million), August ($12 million), and December ($49.5 million).

Lyons named to prestigious NCAA committee

Director of Athletics and Associate Vice President Shane Lyons has been appointed to the NCAA Division I Football Oversight Committee in a term that will expire in June 2022. Recently, Lyons was also named chair of that prestigious committee for the length of his term.

Mountaineer Legends Society to expand

The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics has announced the initial members of the Mountaineer Legends Society for Olympic Sports. The 49 members will make the initial entrance into the Mountaineer Legends Society and will join the 22 men's and women's basketball members, who were first introduced in September 2017 and are on display at the WVU Coliseum Gold Gate, and the 41 football legends, who were first introduced in July 2016 and are on display at Milan Puskar Stadium.

Lyons reveals 2018-19 rifle schedule

The Mountaineers' slate culminates with the 2019 NCAA National Championships, set for March 8-9 at the WVU Coliseum. This year's championship marks the first NCAA final in Morgantown.

275 Mountaineers named to Spring Big 12 Honor Roll

The Big 12 Conference released its 2018 Spring Commissioner's Honor Roll with a total of 275 West Virginia University student-athletes making the list. The conference recognizes all student-athletes at its member institutions during each semester with a 3.0 grade point average or higher. Of the 275 WVU student-athletes recognized by the Big 12 for their academic excellence, 56 registered a GPA of 4.0 in the spring semester.

Jevon Carter finds a home in the NBA

The best defensive player in college basketball the last two seasons has found a home in the NBA. West Virginia guard Jevon Carter, who won the inaugural Naismith National Defensive Player of the Year award at this year's Final Four, was the 32nd overall pick in the second round of last night's NBA Draft by the Memphis Grizzlies. The general manager of the Grizzlies is West Virginia native Chris Wallace.

WVU and Girl Scouts address areas of concern for state girls

Tackling four areas of concern for girls and young women in West Virginia— diversity/inclusion, health, STEM and education— West Virginia University and the Girl Scouts of the Black Diamond Council hosted “State of the Girl,” an event centered around the landmark study of the same name conducted by the Girl Scouts of the USA.
