Football starts new tradition to expand support of WVU Medicine Children’s

Mountaineer football has had a long-standing relationship with WVU Medicine Children's dating back to the early 1980s when former coach Don Nehlen made it his No. 1 charitable cause. Current coach Dana Holgorsen has fully gotten behind West Virginia University's plan to construct a state-of-the-art $60 million facility to house WVU Medicine Children's pediatric and maternal services.

Game at NC State will not be played this weekend

NC State will not play its scheduled football game with West Virginia University this weekend due to the increasing likelihood of severe and unsafe conditions associated with Hurricane Florence. The planned trip and performances by the WVU Marching Band have also been canceled.

WVU to host Education Day

The women's basketball team will host local middle and elementary schools for its nonconference game against Bryant on Nov. 15 as part of the program's first Education Day. Tipoff is set for 10 a.m. inside the WVU Coliseum.

2018-19 WVU men's basketball schedule announced

WVU will open the regular season on Friday, Nov. 9 at home against Buffalo. Six days earlier, the Mountaineers will play its lone exhibition game on Saturday, Nov. 3 against Alderson Broaddus. The non-conference home schedule is highlighted by Pitt's first visit to the WVU Coliseum since 2012 and three teams (Buffalo, Rider and Jacksonville State) who advanced to postseason play in 2017-18.

1988 football team to be honored at home opener

The West Virginia University Varsity Club has announced that the 1988 Mountaineer Football team, one of only two teams to go 11-0 in school history, will be recognized for its 30-year anniversary the weekend of Sept. 7-8, with activities surrounding the home-opening football game vs. Youngstown State.

WVU Foundation’s annual giving program sets another new record

For the fourth straight year, the West Virginia University Foundation’s annual giving program received a record number of donations. Between July 1, 2017 and June 30, 2018, donors gave $22.3 million to the University Fund surpassing the previous record high of $21.6 million in FY ’17.

‘Loyal, generous bunch’ gives more than $160 million to WVU

The WVU Foundation says 23,161 donors, including 12,471 alumni, made 46,056 gifts between July 1, 2017 – June 30, 2018 totaling $161,029,056. Only in FY’12 did the Foundation raise more - $173.9 million, a year that included two exceptionally large philanthropic gifts. FY’18 was buoyed by three record months of giving in July ($12.9 million), August ($12 million), and December ($49.5 million).

Lyons named to prestigious NCAA committee

Director of Athletics and Associate Vice President Shane Lyons has been appointed to the NCAA Division I Football Oversight Committee in a term that will expire in June 2022. Recently, Lyons was also named chair of that prestigious committee for the length of his term.

Mountaineer Legends Society to expand

The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics has announced the initial members of the Mountaineer Legends Society for Olympic Sports. The 49 members will make the initial entrance into the Mountaineer Legends Society and will join the 22 men's and women's basketball members, who were first introduced in September 2017 and are on display at the WVU Coliseum Gold Gate, and the 41 football legends, who were first introduced in July 2016 and are on display at Milan Puskar Stadium.
