Candidates for West Virginia University’s 2017 Homecoming court have been selected.

Lee Bakalarski, a financial expert in the area of risk advisory and assurance, will be among the new class of inductees.

When students in West Virginia University’s Hospitality and Tourism Management program landed internships and employment at a local Morgantown hotel that was ramping up to become a Marriott, they knew it would be a great deal of work. They knew it would be a great deal of commitment. And they knew it would require them to focus entirely on the Marriott brand that had become an international standard.

The four 2016-2017 Claude Worthington Benedum Distinguished Scholars will present highlights of their award-winning research in individual lectures this fall, beginning this week. All members of the campus and local community are invited to attend these lectures and the receptions following.

Pioneer Sessions Week returns to the Erickson Alumni Center, Oct. 2-6. Designed to help students and alumni gain professional life-skills development, Pioneer Sessions are focused on connecting alumni with current students to provide an opportunity to facilitate learning and networking. The sessions are sponsored by the WVU Alumni Association’s student organization, the Gold and Blue Crew.

Insurance and risk management represents one of the largest and most important industries in the world, and West Virginia University’s business school has developed an area of emphasis within its finance major designed to meet the needs of that industry.

An estimated 275 fewer children were born in Flint, Michigan, while the city was using lead-contaminated water from the Flint River, according to findings by researchers from West Virginia University and the University of Kansas.

After the successful launch of the master’s level business data analytics program at West Virginia University, the program has already expanded to meet the needs of students to also offer a two-year option.

The West Virginia University College of Business and Economics will induct four graduates into its renowned B&E Roll of Distinguished Alumni during WVU Homecoming Weekend. This year’s honorees, who represent various industries, will be inducted during a ceremony and luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Oct. 13, at the Erickson Alumni Center in Morgantown.

West Virginia University’s Professional Sales Institute has been named to the “2017 Top Universities for Professional Sales Education” by the Sales Education Foundation, marking the sixth straight year WVU has been listed among the best schools in the world.
