Students from West Virginia University’s College of Business and Economics are currently immersed in the European Innovation Academy in Turin, Italy, a learning environment designed for future entrepreneurs and business leaders from all over the world.
The inspiration from many English teachers motivated Francis McGreevy to endow scholarships for English education. The Dr. Carter Bishop Scholarship will support English undergraduates while the Dr. Carolyn P. Atkins Scholarship will support the Student Athletes Speak Out program in the College of Education and Human Services.
When Dr. Jody Crosno, an associate professor of marketing and the marketing Ph.D. coordinator at the West Virginia University College of Business and Economics, found out that board game sales experienced double-digit growth between 2010 and 2015, the idea lightbulb appeared above her head. She capitalized on the trend and brought the concept into her Marketing 350: Product and Price Policies course with a hands-on, student project.

Coal mine output totaled 80 million short tons in 2016, just over half of the 158 million short tons in 2008. While the baseline forecast calls for statewide coal production to approach 89 million short tons in 2017 and remain in the upper 80 million ton range into the early 2020s, the secular decline in demand for West Virginia coal will continue and lead to output sinking below 80 million tons by 2030.

Totterdale characterizes himself as a lifelong learner, and established an endowment in his mother’s name in the academic area that represents the second segment of his life’s education. As a result, the Dorothy F. Totterdale Scholarship will be offered at the West Virginia University College of Business and Economics to foster that desire to learn in management information systems students.
Within hours of learning about flooding in southern West Virginia last year, the WVU community sprang into action, and is still working on recovery projects in the flood-damaged region as we approach the first anniversary of the devastating event.
The Mountain State Business Index (MSBI) recorded a trace increase in May, marking the ninth time the index has improved on a month-to-month basis out of the last 10 months. Economists at West Virginia University said the MSBI has risen 1.9 percent on an annualized basis over the last six months, and has also notched a 1.6 percent gain over its May 2016 reading.
