C. Peter Magrath, who served as interim president of West Virginia University from 2008-2009, is leaving nearly $1 million to WVU in his will.

Michael T. Escue, a native of Point Pleasant, has committed $1 million to West Virginia University to establish the Ronald E. & Jo Ann Reynolds Escue Neurology Endowment named for his parents.

Two couples who have given tirelessly of their time, talent and resources to West Virginia University were honored today (Nov. 15) in the state of Pennsylvania on National Philanthropy Day.

Supporters of West Virginia University donated more than $6 million Wednesday (Nov. 14) during the University’s second annual Day of Giving, more than doubling last year’s total. It was promoted as “One Day to Give Back” and donors responded making 3,001 gifts during the 24-hour online giving event totaling over $6.2 million.

Members of Leah Berhanu’s family were looking for a way to honor her legacy of lending a helping hand to those who needed it. They chose to create the Leah Berhanu Financial Rescue Scholarship at West Virginia University, her alma mater.

The University has named Stephen Scott and Mia Antinone the 2018 Mr. and Ms. Mountaineer. A long-time Mountaineer Week tradition, the prestigious award recognizes exemplary academic achievement and extracurricular involvement. In addition to the Mr. and Ms. Mountaineer presentation, WVU’s Most Loyals were honored during halftime ceremonies of the Thursday (Oct. 25) football game.

Ross DeVol, a Walton Fellow with the Walton Family Foundation, will present “Characteristics of Competitive Places: The Role of the Entrepreneur and University,” Wednesday, Nov. 7, at 11 a.m., at West Virginia University. The lecture, part of the Glen H. Hiner Distinguished Lecture Series in the Benjamin M. Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources, will be held in room G102 of the Engineering Sciences Building on the Evansdale campus.
