West Virginia University has named Stephen Scott and Mia Antinone the 2018 Mr. and Ms. Mountaineer. A long-time Mountaineer Week tradition, the prestigious award recognizes exemplary academic achievement and extracurricular involvement.
Scott and Antinone were announced as this year’s honorees during the halftime of the WVU vs. Baylor football game tonight (Oct. 25) at Milan Puskar Stadium.
Scott, a third-year law student from Shepherdstown, serves as president of the Student Bar Association, an executive notes editor for the West Virginia Law Review and secretary/treasurer of the West Virginia Fund for Law in the Public Interest. Scott has been honored with the Order of Augusta and endorsed by WVU for the Rhodes Scholarship. He is sponsored by WVU College of Law and the ASPIRE Office.
Antinone, a member of the WVU Honors College, is a biochemistry major from Weirton. She serves as a student tour leader for the WVU Visitors Center and vice president for Mountaineer Guides. Antinone has been on the President’s List and serves as an annual volunteer for the West Virginia Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Conference. She is sponsored by the WVU Visitors Center.
Other Mr. and Ms. Mountaineer finalists were: Alexander Martin of Charleston, Adam Roh of Morgantown, Andrew Jemiolo of Orchard Park, New Jersey, Praveen Majjigapu of Hyderabad, India, Emma Harrison of Morgantown, Virginia Thrasher of Springfield, Virginia, Karen Laska of Wheeling and Morgan Goff of Weirton.
In addition to the Mr. and Ms. Mountaineer presentation, WVU’s Most Loyals were honored during the halftime ceremonies. The 2018 honorees are William and Loulie Canady, Most Loyal West Virginian; William Cawthorne, Most Loyal Alumni Mountaineer; Powsiri “Klink” Klinkhachorn, Most Loyal Faculty/Professional Staff; Avery “Tony” Richardson, Most Loyal Staff; and Bob McWhorter, Most Loyal Spirit Award.
The Most Loyal award recipients are chosen by a joint committee representing the WVU Foundation, WVU Alumni Association, WVU Staff Council, WVU Faculty Senate and the Mountaineer Week organizing committee.
