The West Virginia University Board of Governors took the next step during its Friday (Feb. 23) meeting to implement the Campus Self-Defense Act which goes into effect July 1.

West Virginia University Vice Provost Paul Kreider, a seasoned administrator and innovative academic leader, has been named interim campus president of WVU Potomac State College, effective March 16. The appointment follows Keyser Campus President Chris Gilmer’s resignation. Gilmer will serve as campus president through March 15.

The West Virginia University Morgantown Campus will close Friday (Jan. 19) and all in-person classes are canceled due to inclement weather. Online classes are not affected and will continue. Employees who work remotely or on a hybrid schedule are not affected and should continue their normal schedule. On-site employees should communicate with their supervisors to determine if they are required to work on site during the closure.

In-person classes with a start time prior to 11 a.m. will be canceled on the West Virginia University Morgantown Campus Friday (Jan. 19) due to anticipated inclement weather and worsening road conditions. Online classes will not be affected. Students should report to classes with a start time of 11 a.m. or later.

Safer sidewalks, roof repairs and updated infrastructure to improve heating and cooling are among more than 80 projects West Virginia University is tackling in Morgantown, Keyser and Beckley with nearly $47 million in state funding.

Students interested in the rapidly evolving world of robotics will now be able to enroll in a new robotics engineering major at West Virginia University following approval by the Board of Governors during a meeting Friday (Dec. 15).

More than ever, the University is keenly focused on the modern land-grant priorities outlined in President Gordon Gee's recent State of the University address such as advancing the WVU R1 mission to deliver solutions to real-world problems and growing the academic medical center to improve people’s health.

During his State of the University remarks at the Erickson Alumni Center on Monday (Oct. 23), West Virginia University President Gordon Gee said difficult but necessary decisions have put WVU in a position to invest and innovate, thus setting the University on a course to become the modern land-grant university of the future.

West Virginia University students training to be the engineers of the future or pursuing all kinds of other educational goals have opportunities to explore their ideas at the Lane Innovation Hub, a 9,500-square-foot industrial space located at the Benjamin M. Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources.

West Virginia University announced recommendations Wednesday (Sept. 20) aimed at creating a more focused and cost-efficient suite of academic support services to assist colleges and schools while better serving students’ needs. Separate from the recent Academic Program Portfolio Review, an evaluation of the 20 ASUs in the Provost’s Office began in May.
