The West Virginia University Morgantown Campus will close Friday (Jan. 19) and all in-person classes are canceled due to inclement weather. The PRT and Visitors Centers will also be closed and campus tours canceled.

Online classes are not affected and will continue. Employees who work remotely or on a hybrid schedule are not affected and should continue their normal schedule. On-site employees should communicate with their supervisors to determine if they are required to work on site during the closure.

During the closure, some University operations will continue with reduced staff and services, including those related to the Student Recreation Center, WVU Libraries, residence halls, Dining Services, Student Health and the Mountainlair. WVU students and employees should call ahead before venturing out to ensure locations and services are open as conditions may change or services may be limited.

Facilities Management will also continue essential operations such as roads and grounds maintenance.

WVU Health Sciences faculty, staff and students who work in patient care areas or in clinical rotations should check with their dean, program director or clinic manager.

WVUp All Night activities are anticipated to continue as planned.

The University is scheduled to resume operations at 12:01 a.m. Saturday (Jan. 20); however, officials will continue to closely monitor reports from the National Weather Service, as well as state, local and campus conditions.

Necessary updates will be provided through a variety of outlets, including WVU Alert system, MIX email and students.wvu.edu, MOUNTAINEER E-News, email and enews.wvu.edu. Social media accounts such as @WVUsafety on X and the WVU Safety and Wellness Facebook will also share updates.

Decisions regarding the WVU Tech and Potomac State College campuses are made separately based on local conditions. WVU Extension will follow its internal inclement weather policy, which can be found at employees.extension.wvu.edu/human-resources/current-employees/inclement-weather.

A WVU Alert is part of the the University's three-tiered emergency notification system.
