West Virginia University has released its graduation honors for the spring 2019 semester. A total of 4,221 students graduated from the University in May.

Continuing its emphasis on student success and retention, West Virginia University will hire an associate provost to lead those efforts and more across the entire system, Vice Provost Paul Kreider announced today (May 22).

Service to the state and commitment to West Virginia University’s land-grant mission define the career of WVU Extension Service Dean and Director Steven Bonanno. Bonanno retired May 15 after more than 37 years of service.

Diana Martinelli, who has played a critical role in adapting and expanding curriculum at West Virginia University’s Reed College of Media, was named dean of the school Wednesday (May 1). Martinelli, who has served as associate dean since 2012, succeeds Maryanne Reed, recently named WVU’s next provost and vice president for academic affairs. Also, Earl Scime was appointed interim dean of the Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources, following the decision by current dean Gene Cilento to return to the faculty.

After more than 40 years at West Virginia University, Associate Provost for Academic Personnel C.B. Wilson plans to retire effective Sept. 1. Wilson began his tenure at WVU as chair and professor of Music in 1977 and took on progressive leadership roles in the College of Creative Arts, first as associate dean and later as interim dean of the College.

An Olympic gold medalist, a retired master sergeant of the U.S. Air Force, a musician, a humanitarian and a legacy who has carried on the Mountaineer spirit as the 21st family member to attend West Virginia University are among those who will receive WVU’s highest student honor, the Order of Augusta.

With today’s (April 26) announcement of a new interim chancellor for the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission, Carolyn Long will return to her post as campus president of West Virginia University Institute of Technology effective Monday (April 29).

This year’s honorees are Manal AlNatour, Dana Huebert Lima, Kimberly Meigh, Joshua Osbourn, Audra Slocum and Andrea Taliaferro. Established in 1985 by the WVU Foundation, the Outstanding Teaching Award honors faculty who are particularly effective and inspiring teachers, as well as faculty who have established patterns of exceptional innovation in their teaching methods, course and curriculum design and instructional tools.

Maryanne Reed, who transformed West Virginia University’s journalism school into an exemplar of modern media training as the Reed College of Media, was named provost and vice president for academic affairs of the University on Wednesday (April 17).
