Lessons from the pandemic: What WVU has learned, accomplished and shared in the year of COVID-19

Under the quiet surface of near-stilled campuses over the past year, West Virginia University researchers, faculty and administrators have scrambled to learn more about COVID-19 and mitigate its spread, calculated how to teach online and hybrid classes and figured out how to better ensure people on those campuses could remain safe from the virulent disease that has killed more than 500,000 U. S. citizens to date.

WVU adjusts amid pandemic-related impacts, plans for the future

The West Virginia University Board of Governors approved several measures during a special meeting on Friday (March 5) as the University continues efforts to successfully navigate the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and plan for the future.

Fundraising effort seeks to honor late WVU neurosurgeon, football team physician

Dr. Mark Lee is building on the legacy Dr. G. Robert Nugent left behind following his 50-plus years at WVU. As chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery for the Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute, Lee hopes to continue growing the Department via an endowed chair position created in Nugent’s memory. An additional $300,000 in private support is needed to fully fund the endowment.

Six home games, including Virginia Tech, highlight 2021 football schedule

West Virginia University Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Shane Lyons, in conjunction with the Big 12 Conference has announced the 2021 football schedule. The schedule features six home dates, with four conference games and matchups against Virginia Tech and Long Island. The season begins Sept. 4 at Maryland and also will have five Big 12 road dates.

WVU Day of Giving set for March 3

As West Virginia University and its students face unprecedented challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Mountaineer Nation is invited to show its support Wednesday, March 3, to mark WVU’s fourth Day of Giving.

WVU’s Lyons to chair NCAA Division I Council

West Virginia University Director of Athletics Shane Lyons has added another chairmanship to his impressive resume of accomplishments. He was recently appointed chair of the NCAA Division I Council, which is responsible for the day-to-day decision making for the entire organization. It consists of athletics directors, athletics administrators, senior woman administrators, faculty athletics representatives and student-athletes.

WVU pays tribute to alumnus, longtime supporter George Farmer Jr.

West Virginia University alumnus George R. Farmer Jr. was a successful attorney who devoted his career to carrying on the giving tradition of one of West Virginia’s most celebrated benefactors. In doing so, he helped transform his alma mater and the Morgantown community through impactful philanthropic giving that will be remembered long beyond his passing Monday, at the age of 92.
