WVU bringing hands-on learning opportunities to the Capitol for students, families, alumni

Students, families, 4-H’ers and alumni are invited to learn more about the exciting programs and engage in hands-on activities during the 2020 WVU Day at the Legislature. The free event, hosted by WVU and WVU Extension Service, is open to the public and will take place at the Capitol in Charleston on Jan. 21, 2020, from 9 a.m. to noon.

Athletics receives gift from Hazel Ruby McQuain Charitable Trust

West Virginia University Director of Athletics and Associate Vice President Shane Lyons announced today a $10 million gift from the Hazel Ruby McQuain Charitable Trust to build an Athletics Performance Center at the WVU Coliseum Sports Complex.

Geography graduate student Kristen de Graauw and her mentor, Professor Amy Hessl, uncovered evidence of the significant growth of trees in what may have been a previously cleared area. That growth in the late 17th century coincided with the estimated timing of Native American population decreases following the arrival of European immigrants. This corroborated the hypothesis that a change in the land’s use caused forests to regrow, they explained.
