WVU nursing researcher intervenes between patients and loneliness

Laurie Theeke, a nurse practitioner in the West Virginia University School of Medicine and associate professor in the WVU School of Nursing, developed the Listen program to give lonely people the skills to explore what makes them lonely and devise strategies to feel more connected.

‘The engine of innovation is change,’ WVU’s December graduates told

The weather outside wasn’t quite frightful, but it was delightful inside the West Virginia University Coliseum Friday (Dec. 15) as the largest December graduating class in the University’s 150 years received diplomas amid cheers, shrill whistles and honking horns from their friends and families.

WVU releases May 2018 Commencement Ceremony Information

West Virginia University’s May 2018 graduates will be honored during Commencement weekend, May 11-13. Graduates planning to participate in commencement exercises must register with their school or college during the Spring 2018 semester. Students and parents are encouraged to check the graduation website often in the months and weeks leading up to commencement weekend where information will be added as more details are confirmed.

WVU Nursing Dean Tara Hulsey to also coordinate health promotion and wellness programs

Recognizing the importance of overall health and wellness to academic, professional and personal success, West Virginia University is creating a system-wide initiative to coordinate and improve efforts in those areas. Supported by a substantial gift from Natalie and Wes Bush, the Bush Fund for Health Promotion and Wellness will be directed by Dean of Nursing Tara Hulsey, who will also continue in her current role while adding responsibilities as vice president of health sciences for health promotion and wellness.

Curtis named WVU Extension Service director of communications and marketing

At the heart of the West Virginia University Extension Service is a passion for the state and its people. That statement also holds true for Tara Curtis, the new director of communications and marketing for the University’s main outreach arm, bringing more than 20 years of public relations, communications and marketing experience to the unit.

WVU School of Nursing dean reappointed to state nursing board

West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice has re-appointed Dr. Tara Hulsey, dean of the West Virginia University School of Nursing, to a five-year term on the West Virginia Board of Examiners for Registered Professional Nurses. Hulsey also was re-elected president of the Board.

WVU leader named fellow of national nursing association

Dr. Toni DiChiacchio, assistant dean of the West Virginia University School of Nursing, has been named a Fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners for her outstanding contributions to clinical practice, research, education and policy.
