West Virginia University alumni and friends are being encouraged to make a gift to the University Wednesday, Nov. 14, as part of the second annual WVU Day of Giving.

West Virginia University’s array of programs to create, encourage and support entrepreneurship and the innovation economy in the state got a boost Friday as the Board of Governors approved $1.8 million to lease and renovate space for the College of Business and Economics Startup Engine, the University’s first startup accelerator program.

Renowned West Virginia novelist Ann Pancake leads the list of honorary degree recipients when West Virginia University sends more than 4,450 graduates into the world the weekend of May 11-13 as commencement ceremonies take place in three venues for 13 colleges and schools. Of those graduates, 3,009 have earned their undergraduate degrees or certificates, 1,110 their master’s degrees and 360 have earned their doctorates.

Book dealer honors Forbes with massive book collection to WVU

When Harold M. Forbes retired from West Virginia University as curator of Rare Books in 2013, bookseller Jim Presgraves wanted to pay a proper tribute to his colleague’s long career. Rather than sending a card, Presgraves, approaching retirement himself, donated a large portion of his inventory at Bookworm and Silverfish Books in Rural Retreat, Va., to WVU Libraries in honor of the former Rare Books Curator. Library staff calculate the gift at more than 10,000 books, pamphlets, archives, maps and other materials with a value more than $500,000.

WVU Board of Governors sends out updated rules for review

Continuing its work implementing changes allowed by the “freedom agenda” adopted by the 2017 Legislature, the West Virginia University Board of Governors issued a notice of proposed rulemaking Tuesday (March 6) for an amended set of academic rules and one additional faculty rule.
