West Virginia University issued a statement on Monday (Aug. 23) after the Federal Drug Administration fully approved the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine.

West Virginia University is temporarily revising its masking guidelines. Beginning Wednesday, Aug. 18, and for the next 30 days, masks will be required for all those in classrooms, teaching and research labs on all campuses - regardless of vaccination status.

Due to expected inclement weather this evening, Monday Night Lights for freshmen and first-year students at West Virginia University has been postponed to a later date.

West Virginia University is providing additional guidance to students, faculty and staff as campuses prepare to fully reopen for the fall 2021 semester. WVU’s highest priority is to offer a fully in-person, on-campus academic and student experience this fall. As always, the safety of students, faculty, staff and guests will continue to be an important guiding factor.

As West Virginia University prepares to welcome students, faculty and staff back to campus, the University has updated its COVID-19 guidance for the Fall 2021 semester, including testing requirements.

West Virginia University Police has received four reports since July 17 of thefts from vehicles. In most cases, the vehicles were left unlocked and parked in the following lots on the Morgantown campus: Lots 30 (Near College Park), North High St. (Near Boreman) and Coliseum Lot. Similar incidents have been reported throughout Monongalia County. University Police is increasing patrols and presence in these areas and is also coordinating with other law enforcement agencies in response to the incidents.

West Virginia University, including the WVU Research Corp., will close Friday, June 18, following a Presidential Proclamation and separate declaration issued by Gov. Jim Justice proclaiming a state holiday in recognition of Juneteenth.

With recent decreases in COVID-19 cases across the country and the knowledge that COVID-19 vaccines are extremely safe and effective, West Virginia University now plans to fully reopen its campuses this fall.

As West Virginia University prepares to welcome back students, faculty and staff to campus for the fall 2021 semester, the University has developed plans and guidelines for employees to ensure continued adaptation of new ways of working and operating in as safe a manner as possible.

Preparations are underway at West Virginia University for a full reopening of Dining Services in time for the start of the fall semester on Aug. 18.
