Following a proclamation from Gov. Patrick Morrisey granting state employees a half-day off ahead of Thanksgiving, West Virginia University is announcing an early closure for Tuesday (Nov. 25).
The state proclamation applies to Nov. 26 which is already a holiday for University employees.
Because of that, the University — including WVU Potomac State College, WVU Institute of Technology and WVU Extension — will apply the half-day off holiday to Tuesday, Nov. 25.
Employees will be excused from the second half of Tuesday with no charge against accrued annual leave. The Nov. 25 closure will be effective for personnel beginning at 1 p.m.
To be eligible for the half-day Nov. 25 holiday, employees must:
• Be benefits-eligible and active on WVU payroll on Nov. 25;
• Not be in a terminal annual leave status; and
• Work their full shift or have enough paid leave to cover any amount of time absent on the working day prior to and immediately following the holiday.
The Nov. 25 holiday will be paid at regular straight-time pay. For a full-time employee, that is 3.75 hours. The holiday pay/hours are pro-rated by FTE for employees who are less than full-time.
Employees who have already requested annual leave on the afternoon of Nov. 25 should access the Applaud system to cancel their leave.
Some essential campus services will remain open.
Certain employees will be contacted by their supervisor with additional information regarding a holiday work schedule to support ongoing campus services. Additional questions from employees should be directed to supervisors.
WVU Health Sciences faculty, staff and students who work in patient care areas or in clinical rotations should check with their dean, program director or clinic manager for schedule specifics.
WVU Extension will provide separate guidance for specific sites.
The fall recess continues through Sunday (Nov. 30).
