Frappier and Warden named WVU Homecoming Royalty, Alumni awards presented

A celebration of time-honored traditions and new Homecoming experiences culminated at West Virginia University Saturday (Oct. 19) with the crowning of Megan Frappier and Hannah Warden as the 2024 Homecoming Royalty.

The announcement was made during the halftime ceremony at the Homecoming football game against Kansas State.

Selected by their peers during two days of voting, Frappier and Warden were surrounded by members of the Homecoming Court and family, “The Pride of West Virginia,” the Mountaineer Marching Band and thousands of cheering fans, including alumni, attending the game at Milan Puskar Stadium.

Frappier, a senior criminology and political science dual major from Cliffwood, New Jersey, serves as a member of the Project 168 Society, Women in Politics and Government Club and the Delta Gamma Fraternity, Alpha Xi Chapter, among other organizations. She is the founding president of the Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Peer Advocates and serves as a Diversity Ambassador. Frappier is also a two-term vice president of inclusion for the WVU National Pan-Hellenic Council. She was sponsored by the Hip Hop Dance Team.

Warden, a senior health services management and leadership major from Cross Lanes, serves as the president of the WVU Panhellenic Association, a member of Chi Omega Sorority and the Mountaineer Maniacs, among other organizations. She works as a Mindfit academic coach and is one of the first students to be admitted to the Accelerated Bachelor’s to Master of Health Administration program. Warden also volunteers her time with the Multidisciplinary Unsheltered Homeless Outreach of Morgantown. She was sponsored by the WVU Panhellenic Association.

Other candidates include: Maria Amores, a senior organizational communication studies major from Martinsburg; Trixie Calissie, a senior music education major from Wheeling; Emily Coram, a senior accounting major from Wheeling; Makenzie Keplinger, a senior biology major from Moorefield; Lauren Marquart, a senior elementary education major from Wheeling; Shaye Potter, a senior political science major from Greensburg, Pennsylvania; Alexandria Spiker, a junior finance major from Morgantown; and Kayla Workman, a senior management information systems major from Canonsburg, Pennsylvania.

The WVU Alumni Association also presented the 2024 Homecoming and Alumni Service Awards at halftime.

Alumnae Tracy Schoenadel (‘87, ‘89, ‘92) and Laura Boyd (‘89, ‘91) earned the distinctive title of 2024 Outstanding Alumni, and Paul Lewis (‘68, ‘73) is the recipient of the David W. Jacobs Lifetime Service Award.

Chris Morlock (‘11) is the recipient of the Margaret Buchanan Cole Young Alumni Award, Andy Richardson (‘79, '82) the James R. McCartney Community Service Award, Bill Nevin (‘06) the Paul B. “Buck” Martin Values and Traditions Award, and Mallory Willink (’09) the John F. Nicholas Jr. Award.

World-renowned astrophysicists Duncan Lorimer and Maura McLaughlin from the WVU Eberly College of Arts and Sciences served as the grand marshals for the annual Homecoming Parade Friday evening (Oct. 18).
