A national firm with more than 50 years of experience will partner with the West Virginia University Board of Governors in its search for a new University president.

The BOG announced during a special meeting Wednesday (May 29) that it chose WittKieffer which has conducted more than 145 presidential and chancellor searches over the past five years.

A selection committee consisting of BOG members and WVU staff reviewed 11 proposals from executive search firms submitted through the RFP process and decided on WittKieffer after conducting interviews with four of the firms.

“The committee was particularly impressed with the expertise and experience of the personnel, their demonstration of deep knowledge and understanding of West Virginia University and their plan of execution, including focus on the importance of strategic communication,” said Dr. Patrice Harris, chair of the BOG Ad Hoc Governance Committee. “We look forward to a collaborative and productive partnership with the WittKieffer team.”

The Committee will meet on June 6 to continue the vetting process for nominees to the Presidential Selection Committee and will present the slate of nominees to the Board of Governors for review and endorsement during its June 21 regular meeting.

The timeline for listening sessions will now begin in July and be extended through mid-September.

“We want to maximize opportunities for faculty, staff and students to participate and provide their input.” Harris said. “The remainder of the timeline remains unchanged.”
