West Virginia University’s Board of Governors was briefed Thursday on the institution’s ongoing responses to the coronavirus pandemic and background on decisions that have been made and are under consideration.

“This is an unprecedented time for all of us, but it is reassuring to see how the administration has responded,” Board Chairman David Alvarez said following the special meeting, which was held in executive session. “Everyone involved with this University has shown the kind of determination, flexibility and dedication we would expect from Mountaineers.”

No decisions were made nor needed during the meeting.

“There are still major issues to be addressed, including summer sessions and a myriad of seasonal programs, reimbursements and, perhaps most importantly, how this will affect our future,” President Gordon Gee said. “Knowing that we have the support of the Board is validation that we are on the right path.”

Some of those decisions are expected to be announced within the next couple of weeks, Gee said.
