The Office of the Provost at West Virginia University welcomed its fourth class of Academic Leadership Fellows this summer, giving nine tenured faculty members the opportunity to strengthen their leadership skills and gain direct experience in academic administration.
The fellows, chosen based on application materials, recommendation letters from administrators and interviews, will spend the 2018-2019 academic year with part-time appointments in the Office of the Provost. They will work closely with Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs Joyce McConnell and her leadership team.
“I am excited to see our Fellows program continue to grow and attract faculty interested in exploring academic administration and leadership,” McConnell said. “We do not need to look far for innovative, forward-focused ideas to make our institution better. Our faculty members have the skills and vision we need—and they already know and love WVU. We’re going to have a great year.”
The 2018-2019 Academic Leadership Fellows are:
· Allison Dagen, Literacy Studies
· Trisha Phillips, Political Science
· Christian Schaupp, Accounting
· Matthew Smith, Neurocritical Care
· Judith Wasserman, Landscape Architecture
· Evan Widders, Multidisciplinary Studies
The Academic Leadership Fellows Program launched with five fellows in 2015-2016 and has offered opportunities to faculty members from across the Morgantown campus—including in the College of Law and the Health Science Center—ever since. The Office of the Provost is currently accepting applications for the 2019-2020 class of Fellows. Interested faculty members should consult call for applications and full program description.
