More than 30 West Virginia University students will take part in the 16th annual Undergraduate Research Day at the Capitol in Charleston Tuesday (Feb. 26) from 8:30 - 11 a.m. in the Capitol Rotunda.
Education Law Symposium examining the landmark West Virginia Supreme Court decision of Pauley v. Kelly, where the court held that education is a fundamental right. Discussion will further touch on recent teacher strikes and education law in areas of higher learning.
The “I Heart IDEA Hub Pitch Challenge” provides students, faculty, staff and community members who utilize any of the IDEA Hub’s services the opportunity to showcase their innovative ideas and compete for cash prizes to further develop their innovations. Fourteen individuals or teams will pitch their innovations in three minutes to a group of judges, followed by a question and answer period. The event will also serve as a valuable networking opportunity for IDEA Hub members, innovative leaders and West Virginia entrepreneurs to convene.
West Virginia University will host more than 325 Boy and Girl Scouts from six states Saturday, February 9, for an on-campus experience at “Merit Badge University.” This day-long event is both educational and fun-filled. The United States Equestrian Federation Disaster Relief Fund which helps to ensure the safety and well-being of horses affected by natural disasters.

At the fifteenth annual West Virginia University Extension Service Small Farm Conference held in Charleston, the WVU Extension Service Small Farm Center is offering classes to teach farmers how to adapt their enterprises to meet the rising demand for local foods.
Nearly 90 West Virginia women from across the state will convene at the Erickson Alumni Center to help uncover solutions that address challenges unique to women. WV Forward and the WV Public Education Collaborative, along with WVU Provost Joyce McConnell and First Lady Laurie Erickson, are partnering to coordinate results-oriented conversations aimed to empower more women to play an active role in blazing a path toward a future in which all West Virginians can stand on equal footing to attain the high-quality educational opportunities, secure jobs and sustainable pay.
David O’Sullivan, ambassador of the European Union to the United States, will deliver a lecture, "Europe and the United States: A Relationship Under Strain in a World of Crises," Thursday (Jan. 31) at 4 p.m. in the Downtown Campus Library.
The MLK Scholarship Award and the MLK Achievement Award will be presented at the breakfast. The scholarship is awarded annually to a WVU student who demonstrates an active interest and meaningful involvement in areas of human rights, civil rights and social justice. The Achievement Award is given to the nominee from West Virginia who best exemplifies working to fulfill King’s commitment. Following the breakfast, volunteers will travel to complete a variety of service projects in Morgantown.
