WVU forestry students are given access to state-of-the-art technology, developed by alumnus

New software donated to the West Virginia University Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Design – and created by one of its own alumni – will help forestry students cruise into their careers using the most up-to-date technology. Cruise Control is designed to aid foresters in data collection and processing for forest inventory.

WVU Extension Service Community Leadership Academy to be held in April

Community leaders will have the opportunity to build networks with other leaders from various disciplines throughout the Mountain State. The annual West Virginia University Extension Service Community Leadership Academy conference boasts a comprehensive experience by providing education and motivation. The conference takes place April 11-13 at the Morgantown Marriott at Waterfront Place.

WVU student stars on the big screen

Madelyn Dundon, a sophomore musical theatre major at WVU stars as Grace, a charismatic and riveting teenager with cancer. "Getting Grace" tells the story of what happens when Grace goes into a funeral home to learn about death, only to end up teaching the funeral director about life. The film premieres nationwide on Friday, March 23.

WVU faculty teams with local high school student to create Twitter bot for Statler College

A trio made up of WVU Statler College faculties and staff members along with a high school student have developed @WVUStatlerBot, a twitter account that can post, like, retweet, follow and direct message other accounts automatically. Saiph Savage, Mary Dillon and University High School student Caroline Anderson are merging technology, social media and marketing with this autonomous bot.

WVU engineering student discovers hidden talent behind the camera

Most student workers behind the cameras at West Virginia University Athletics events come from the Reed College of Media. But one student from the Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources is using his hidden talent to make sure fans don't miss a minute of the action. Trevor Gromen, a mechanical and aerospace engineering student, has plans to integrate all he's learned in his major and in his job for an out-of-this-world career.

How domestic violence affects healthcare

Domestic violence leaves a lasting impact not only on the survivor but also on physicians, healthcare providers, counselors and others. Of the Mindful Physician, an organization for medical students focusing on the impact that arts and humanities have on healthcare, is hosting a community event discussing the intersection of domestic violence and healthcare from multiple perspectives: physician, researcher, rape counselor, survivor and martial arts instructors. The group will delve into topics related to the impact of domestic violence on patients and survivors, patients' interaction with healthcare and ways to help survivors regain function in their lives.
