WVU Global Health Week to include keynote address from former director of White House Office of National Drug Control Policy

WHAT: The West Virginia University Global Health Program at WVU Health Sciences will host Dr. Rahul Gupta as the keynote speaker for Global Health Week 2025. 

The event, “Health Without Borders: Innovation, Access, and the Future of Global Health,” will highlight how innovation, access and collaboration can shape the future of global health, reflecting the WVU mission to improve health outcomes in West Virginia and around the world.

WHEN: Monday, Oct. 6, noon 

Media representatives who plan to attend the event are asked to RSVP by Sunday (Oct. 5) to Christie Matyola at Christie.Matyola@hsc.wvu.edu and are encouraged to arrive by 11:45 a.m. on Monday (Oct. 6).

NOTES: Gupta is president of GATC Health, a $5 billion AI-driven technology company focused on drug discovery, precision medicine and predictive analytics. From 2021 to 2025, he served as the first medical doctor to lead the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy, where he coordinated the nation’s $44 billion drug budget across 19 federal agencies and was credited with making historic progress in addressing the drug overdose crisis. He also previously served as West Virginia’s health commissioner under two governors and held leadership roles at March of Dimes.
