WVU Extension hosts ‘ultimate’ youth adventure camp, Mountaineer mascots to share experiences, participate in safety training

West Virginia University Extension Ultimate Outdoor Adventure Camp, a three-day outdoor adventure camp for state youths ages 12-18 that includes kayaking, survival skills, hiking, shooting sports, ATV training, fly fishing and much more will be held Saturday and Sunday, April 30 and May 1, at WVU Jackson’s Mill. WHAT: West Virginia University Extension Ultimate Outdoor Adventure Camp, a three-day outdoor adventure camp for state youths ages 12-18 that includes kayaking, survival skills, hiking, shooting sports, ATV training, fly fishing and much more

WHEN: Saturday and Sunday, April 30 and May 1

WHERE: WVU Jackson’s Mill, 160 Jackson Mill Road, Weston

WHO:

  • Approximately 90 campers, volunteers and WVU Extension agents
  • WVU Mountaineer Mascot Mary Roush, alternate Mountaineer Gunnar Webb, and former Mountaineer mascot Colson Glover

PHOTO AND INTERVIEW OPPORTUNITIES:

Saturday, April 30, 9:30 a.m.-noon and 1-4:30 p.m. – WVU Extension experts and volunteers will be teaching ATV safety training for participants. (Located on the grounds of the Multipurpose Arena near the old air strip)

Sunday, May 1, 9 a.m.-10 a.m. The mascots will share their “Mountaineer experiences,” discuss the process for becoming the mascot and take questions from campers. (Located at Mt. Vernon Dining Hall on the main Jackson’s Mill campus.)

Sunday, May 1, 10:30 a.m.-approximately 1 p.m. – WVU Extension agents and other experts will join the Mountaineer Mascots for training for properly using the rifle/muzzleloader. (Robert Hayhurst Shooting Sports Complex located off Rt. 12 prior to reaching the bridge/Old Mill Road)
