Honors College names Faculty Fellows to develop innovative courses

Using math to understand the Netflix recommender system or investigating what prompts people to create hoaxes are topics covered in two of the innovative courses that will be developed by the inaugural class of Honors Faculty Fellows at West Virginia University.

WVU receives software gift from Schlumberger

For 10 years, geology students at West Virginia University have accessed the same software used by oil and gas companies worldwide, expanding their marketability for industry jobs. Schlumberger, the world’s leading technology developer for the oil and gas industry, has furthered this access through an in-kind gift of their Petrel Geology and Modeling software to the Department of Geology and Geography. The software is commercially valued at $53 million.

'Hidden Figures’ inspires duo to create tribute to Johnson at WVU

As part of its National Engineers Week events, West Virginia University's Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources unveiled a plaque in honor of Katherine Johnson on Feb. 21. Students Savannah Lusk and Morgan King were instrumental in the effort to honor Johnson, the first woman to desegregate WVU's graduate school.

'Climate Survey' shows general feeling of safety, but acknowledges issues

More than 90 percent of West Virginia University students say they feel physically safe on campus, although almost 20 percent say they have experienced some type of unwanted contact, according to the preliminary results of an initial "climate survey" of students released Friday.
