While recognizing the sometimes negative connotations of Greek life, West Virginia University will emphasize the goals of diversity and inclusion, by renaming the Office of Greek Life to the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life, while the organizations are expanding their philanthropy mission to build a new school in a developing country.
West Virginia University fans from around the world will celebrate the sixth-annual Mountaineer Nation Day Oct. 21. Mountaineer Nation Day is a 24-hour period dedicated to fans and their pride and passion for WVU. This year’s celebration will take place on the day the football team takes on Baylor, televised at 8 p.m. on Fox Sports 2.

Both are being emphasized on Nov. 8 as West Virginia University is reaching out to students, alumni and friends, encouraging them to make a gift – especially ones that go to the general, unrestricted needs of the University and its schools and colleges. The WVU Foundation is organizing the University’s inaugural Day of Giving, 24-hour online fundraising effort, as a simple way for University supporters to contribute to the Foundation’s “State of Minds” Campaign.

The West Virginia University College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences will induct five graduates into its 2017 Hall of Fame and name its Outstanding Alumnus on Friday, October 20, at the Erickson Alumni Center beginning with a reception from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. and formal induction ceremony beginning at 7 p.m. The public is welcome to attend.

Pioneer Sessions Week returns to the Erickson Alumni Center, Oct. 2-6. Designed to help students and alumni gain professional life-skills development, Pioneer Sessions are focused on connecting alumni with current students to provide an opportunity to facilitate learning and networking. The sessions are sponsored by the WVU Alumni Association’s student organization, the Gold and Blue Crew.
The Mountaineer Parents Club will welcome families of West Virginia University students to campus this weekend for the annual Fall Family Weekend. WVU will host a variety of social and educational opportunities to help connect families to the WVU campus, Mountaineer culture, and the greater Morgantown community.
The West Virginia University College of Business and Economics will induct four graduates into its renowned B&E Roll of Distinguished Alumni during WVU Homecoming Weekend. This year’s honorees, who represent various industries, will be inducted during a ceremony and luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Oct. 13, at the Erickson Alumni Center in Morgantown.
