West Virginia University alumnus Nick Underwood has been flying into the eye of Hurricane Irma, the most powerful Atlantic Ocean hurricane in recorded history, to collect critical data about the storm and where it’s headed. Underwood, a native of Beaver, graduated from WVU in 2014 with a degree in aerospace engineering. He has spent the last year working with the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration’s Aircraft Operations Center.

Two West Virginia University Reed College of Media online graduate students have been awarded scholarships from the College's newly-established General IMC Scholarship Fund. The competitive scholarship, established in 2017 by College of Media alumni and employees Catherine and Chad Mezera, is for students enrolled in the College’s Integrated Marketing Communications and Data Marketing Communications graduate programs.

Longtime supporters of West Virginia University, alumni Curtis H. “Hank” Barnette and his wife, Joanne Harner Barnette, are donating to the University the Harner-Barnette farm which includes 10 acres of land outside Morgantown, a house and related buildings on the property with furnishings, and farm implements.

West Virginia University’s 2017-2018 national television spot, tying into its “Mountaineers Go First” creative brand campaign, has been released and will debut during Sunday’s football game against Virginia Tech, continuing throughout the academic year.

Future cancer research at West Virginia University will benefit from a $1 million estate gift from longtime WVU supporters Steve and Jamie Antoline.

West Virginia University alumni Dr. Kenneth Oldfield and his wife, Angela, are remembering their alma mater in their estate plan with a generous gift to the WVU Foundation.

Donors to the University Fund, the annual giving program of the West Virginia University Foundation, gave $21.6 million in fiscal year 2017, an all-time high record. The previous record high was $21.4 million donated in fiscal year 2016.

With fewer than six months left in “A State of Minds: The Campaign for West Virginia’s University,” gifts to the comprehensive fundraising effort continue to roll in.

Alumni and friends of West Virginia University and the Mountaineer Marching Band are being asked to help the band travel this fall, including a planned trip to Landover, Maryland, for the Sept. 3 football game against the Virginia Tech Hokies.

Future students in the Benjamin M. Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources and the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences will benefit from an endowed scholarship created by a generous estate gift from West Virginia University alumni Charlie and Barbe Meredith.
