A busload of prospective West Virginia University students and their families got a bow-tied surprise during a recent tour of campus.

Four exceptional faculty members at West Virginia University have been named 2016 Benedum Distinguished Scholars in recognition of the high caliber of their research and scholarly activity.

Recognized for her innovative leadership in journalism and media education, West Virginia University Reed College of Media Dean Maryanne Reed, has been named the 2016 Scripps Howard Administrator of the Year.

MorphoTrak, a key provider of biometric services to law enforcement and other agencies, will donate access to MorphoCloud, a cloud-based collection of services, to West Virginia University to support the university’s highly-regarded research and education programs in biometrics and forensics.

Rita Colistra, professor of public relations in the Reed College of Media, has been named the recipient of the 2016 James and Karen Caveney Alumni Association Faculty Excellence Award.

More than 90 percent of West Virginia University students say they feel physically safe on campus, although almost 20 percent say they have experienced some type of unwanted contact, according to the preliminary results of an initial "climate survey" of students released Friday.

While West Virginia University remains financially stable, it faces future challenges with continued reductions in state revenue, limited ability and desire to increase tuition and competition from other institutions, the Board of Governors was told Friday (Feb. 10).

West Virginia University announced today (Feb. 10) that Bob and Laura Reynolds are giving $10 million to the WVU College of Business and Economics. The gift will provide initial funding for a building in their names at a new business school complex on Morgantown’s waterfront, as well as propel other academic components of business education at B&E.
