West Virginia University announced recommendations Wednesday (Sept. 20) aimed at creating a more focused and cost-efficient suite of academic support services to assist colleges and schools while better serving students’ needs. Separate from the recent Academic Program Portfolio Review, an evaluation of the 20 ASUs in the Provost’s Office began in May.
West Virginia University will restructure another large administrative unit as part of ongoing review and transformation efforts. During the WVU Board of Governors special meeting on Tuesday (Aug. 22), President Gordon Gee addressed recent criticisms that the University has not worked to identify cost-saving opportunities.
Nearly 4,500 West Virginia University graduates walked across the stage to receive their diplomas as family and friends cheered during 14 commencement ceremonies this weekend (May 12-14) in Morgantown.
“The state of West Virginia University is strong,” President Gordon Gee said during his spring State of the University address on Monday (March 27). “And we will be even stronger in the decades to come, thanks to a concerted focus on what matters most.”
Supporters of West Virginia University donated a record $18.1 million Wednesday (March 22) during the University’s sixth Day of Giving. More than 8,200 gifts were made during the 24-hour online fundraising event held across the University system, also a new record.

As they pursue careers focused on caring and compassion, the three inaugural West Virginia University School of Nursing student ambassadors are already demonstrating their dedication to helping others by sharing their personal experiences and expertise with incoming nursing students.
During the event, West Virginia University will invite alumni, friends and students to collectively make a difference and support the University’s land-grant mission.
“Service is not only one of our WVU Values, it reflects our commitment to the people of West Virginia as an R1, land-grant institution,” West Virginia University President Gordon Gee told Board of Governors members during their regular meeting Friday, Feb. 17.
In West Virginia’s hills and hollows, its larger cities along interstates and smaller communities on country roads, at ground levels and from broader 365-degree views, West Virginia University students, faculty and staff are working each day in service to the Mountain State.
