Four academic advisers at West Virginia University have been awarded the Nicholas Evans Award for Excellence in Advising. This annual award, established by the Office of the Provost, is given in honor of Dr. Nicholas Evans, a lifelong proponent of the importance of undergraduate advising at WVU.
West Virginia University Hospitality and Tourism Management students in the College of Business and Economics had the unique opportunity to experience real-world training in hotel management while helping the West Virginia Tourism Office find ways to increase business in state parks. The students analyzed revenue trends of lodging facilities in state parks across West Virginia to determine how best to regulate proper occupancy rates and pricing regimes.
Eight students who collectively “reflect West Virginia University’s mission and vision” have been honored with the Order of Augusta, WVU’s most prestigious student honor.
Thanks to connections made by West Virginia University’s College of Business and Economics, an MBA student is pitching new technology—a wireless electric power system potentially adaptable to charging phone, computer, drone and electric car batteries—to two federal agencies. The relationship has also inspired a business to move to West Virginia from Alabama.

Some of West Virginia University’s extraordinary researchers are mapping the universe, using hair follicles to solve crimes and helping consumers understand the risks of off-label prescription drugs. Three of those researchers were celebrated last week at the Office of Graduate Education and Life’s annual Three-Minute Thesis Competition, in which 12 doctoral students from across the University competed for the top spots, all of which came with cash awards.
Trevor Kiess will officially begin his reign as the 2018-19 West Virginia University Mountaineer Mascot on Friday (April 6), when current Mountaineer Troy Clemons passes the rifle on to him in a formal ceremony. The ceremony, open to the public, will take place at 4:30 p.m. in the Barnette Room of the Erickson Alumni Center.
