WVU, Revature partnership to provide on-campus coding training

West Virginia University and Revature, a leading technology talent development company, have announced a strategic partnership to provide WVU and other college graduates with hands-on technology training that will help prepare them to fill a demand for highly-skilled software programmers.

WVU researchers to develop economic plan for Potomac Highlands region

A group of counties in eastern West Virginia has turned to West Virginia University to develop a strategic action plan for its future. WVU’s Bureau of Business and Economic Research will lead a team of expert organizations who will prepare the plan in an effort to promote economic development in West Virginia’s Potomac Highlands region. The plan will encompass Pendleton, Grant, Hampshire, Hardy and Mineral counties, which compose the Region 8 Planning and Development Council.

WVU commencement ceremonies celebrate accomplishments of graduates, alumni, West Virginia natives

Renowned West Virginia novelist Ann Pancake leads the list of honorary degree recipients when West Virginia University sends more than 4,450 graduates into the world the weekend of May 11-13 as commencement ceremonies take place in three venues for 13 colleges and schools. Of those graduates, 3,009 have earned their undergraduate degrees or certificates, 1,110 their master’s degrees and 360 have earned their doctorates.

Four receive award for excellence in advising

Four academic advisers at West Virginia University have been awarded the Nicholas Evans Award for Excellence in Advising. This annual award, established by the Office of the Provost, is given in honor of Dr. Nicholas Evans, a lifelong proponent of the importance of undergraduate advising at WVU.

WVU hospitality students provide valuable data for state parks and the West Virginia Tourism Office to help move West Virginia Forward

West Virginia University Hospitality and Tourism Management students in the College of Business and Economics had the unique opportunity to experience real-world training in hotel management while helping the West Virginia Tourism Office find ways to increase business in state parks. The students analyzed revenue trends of lodging facilities in state parks across West Virginia to determine how best to regulate proper occupancy rates and pricing regimes.

WVU student wins chance to pitch clean energy technology to U.S. Department of Defense

Thanks to connections made by West Virginia University’s College of Business and Economics, an MBA student is pitching new technology—a wireless electric power system potentially adaptable to charging phone, computer, drone and electric car batteries—to two federal agencies. The relationship has also inspired a business to move to West Virginia from Alabama.

Nominations open for WVU business school’s Roll of Distinguished Alumni

Nominations are now open for the 2018 class of the College of Business and Economics Roll of Distinguished Alumni at West Virginia University. Individuals interested in submitting a nomination may do so through June 1. This year’s inductees will be honored at an Oct. 5 luncheon during WVU Homecoming Weekend at the Erickson Alumni Center on the Evansdale Campus.
