WVU researchers unite in search of new drug to treat lung cancer

West Virginia University researchers with differing expertise and approaches are joining forces to seek a drug for non-small cell lung cancer. The group, assembled by Lori Hazlehurst, associate director of basic research at the WVU Cancer Institute, has been awarded a one-year grant to support the team’s efforts.

WVU names 2024 Foundation Scholars

The new cohort of West Virginia University Foundation Scholars — recipients of the highest academic scholarship the University awards — includes Ama Ackon-Annan from Woodrow Wilson High School, Isaac Brown from Clay County High School, Liam McCarthy from Musselman High School, Clare Talbott from Elkins High School and Zadie Worley from Liberty (Raleigh) High School.

WVU mining engineering students win second place in national student design competition

A team of West Virginia University mining engineering students from the Benjamin M. Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources earned second place in the Society of Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration/National Stone, Sand and Gravel Association Student Design Competition for their mine design and reinvestment plan.

WVU faculty member earns honors at SHAPE America Convention

West Virginia University faculty member Eloise Elliott was recently inducted as a fellow into the North America Society of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, Sport and Dance Professionals at the SHAPE America Convention in Cleveland. Elliott, Ware Distinguished Professor in the WVU College of Applied Human Sciences, was one of eight to be inducted into this year’s class.

WVU dentistry students provide care through mission trip to Guatemala

With a heart for patients in rural West Virginia, the same compassion was in play when West Virginia University School of Dentistry students and faculty visited Antigua, Guatemala. A team made up of three faculty members and seven students spent several days at Hospital Obras Sociales del Hermano Pedro where they saw an average of 25 patients a day.
