Launchlab Idea Challenge celebrates new student ventures; first place goes to Pantry Plus More

The West Virginia University LaunchLab’s inaugural March Idea Challenge ended on a high note last week, when Political Science major Roark Sizemore and Economics major Courtney Pyatt were awarded first place. The two, both juniors and Honors College students, won for their pitch for Pantry Plus More, a start-up nonprofit company that provides food and personal hygiene items to K-12 students in Monongalia County public schools.

National Teacher of the Year to speak at WVU

Jahana Hayes, the National Teacher of the Year will speak to the West Virginia University and Morgantown community as part of an event hosted by the WVU College of Education and Human Services at the Erickson Alumni Center April 11 at 6 p.m.

Carter wins NABC Defensive Player of the Year

West Virginia University men’s basketball guard Jevon Carter has been named the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Defensive Player of the Year at the annual AT&T NABC Guardians of the Game Awards Show on Sunday evening at the Orpheum Theatre in Phoenix.

Drury to resign as director of Mountaineer Marching Band

Jay Drury, who has led the West Virginia University Mountaineer Marching Band to multiple national appearances over the last 11 years, has announced his resignation as director of athletic bands and associate director of bands, effective June 1.

Football season opener moved to Sunday, Sept. 3

West Virginia University and Virginia Tech have announced that their season-opening football game at FedExField in Landover, Maryland, has been moved to Sunday, Sept. 3 at 7:30 p.m. and will be televised nationally by ABC.
