Four students who are eager to represent West Virginia University as the 68th Mountaineer Mascot will compete in a cheer-off during the men’s basketball game vs. Texas at 2 p.m. Saturday (Feb. 26) in the WVU Coliseum.
Representatives from Sodexo joined West Virginia University Dining Services during Friday’s (Feb. 18) Board of Governors meeting to acknowledge recent concerns about food quality and to outline the steps being taken to address them.
As infection and hospitalization rates from COVID-19 decrease, West Virginia University will lift mask requirements for individuals in indoor spaces, regardless of vaccination status, effective immediately. However, the University will continue to require masks in all classrooms, labs or any WVU System facility or building being used as a classroom.
West Virginia University will hold a bell-ringing ceremony, coordinated by the Office of Campus and Community Life and Alpha Phi Omega, a national service fraternity, Friday (Feb. 18) in remembrance of students Sabrina Smith and Shawn Clothier.
The interim suspension for Delta Chi went into effect immediately and blocks the fraternity from all recruitment activities, as well as participating, organizing or attending social functions, among other restrictions.

In-person classes with a start time prior to 10 a.m. are canceled on West Virginia University’s Morgantown campus Friday, Feb. 4, due to anticipated inclement weather and worsening road conditions. Online classes are not affected. The remainder of the University began normal operations at 9 a.m.; however, WVU students and employees should call ahead before venturing out to ensure locations and services are open as conditions may change or services may be limited.
With the continued spread of the omicron variant and increased hospitalization rates in the state and region, West Virginia University is providing additional guidance on campus health and safety protocols including masking, testing, vaccines and isolation.

To celebrate the reach of WVU’s academic programs, research and outreach efforts, WVU and WVU Extension will host WVU Day at the Legislature Jan. 25 from 9 a.m. to noon in the Capitol rotunda. The event also will feature a special drone demonstration presented by teens participating in the 4-H Tech Changemakers program from noon to 1 p.m.
