West Virginia University has released its Fall 2025 Dean’s and President’s lists, as well as the full list of graduates for the fall semester.

Following a national search focused on the academic future of West Virginia University, President Michael T. Benson is announcing the hiring of Beverly Wendland, an accomplished scholar and academic leader with wide-ranging higher education experience, to serve as the University’s provost and vice president for academic affairs.

A distinguished cohort of four West Virginia University graduates will be inducted into the Academy of Distinguished Alumni in recognition of their groundbreaking achievements in business, communications and education. They are Michael J. Florio, Nitin N. Kumbhani, Mary Ellen Mazey and Morris Morrison.

A new era began inside the Hope Coliseum Saturday (Dec. 20) as West Virginia University President Michael T. Benson spoke from the gold and blue Commencement stage for the first time, and hundreds of August and December graduates took their first steps as Mountaineer alumni.

When Woodrow A. Potesta Professor of Law Charles DiSalvo was sorting out the idea of a Center for Law and Public Service at the West Virginia University College of Law, he was swinging for the fences.

West Virginia University has named Matthew Bolling, Brogan Dozier, Isabella Hart, Abby Ruth and Erin Skaff the 2025 Mountaineers of Distinction, a Mountaineer Week tradition that recognizes exemplary academic achievement and extracurricular involvement.

Calling it “a win for students, families and the Mountain State,” West Virginia University President Michael T. Benson announced a University retention record during the Board of Governors meeting Friday (Nov. 7). To build on that momentum, Benson unveiled his Strategic Compass, which provides a pathway forward for the University.

Each year, West Virginia University recognizes a select group of outstanding Mountaineers who exemplify true dedication, pride and service to the University community as part of the annual WVU Mountaineer Week celebration. These individuals make a lasting impact on the lives of others and help keep the Mountaineer spirit strong.

As Mountaineers return for West Virginia University Homecoming Weekend, Oct. 24-25, the WVU Alumni Association will honor recipients of the 2025 Homecoming and Alumni Service Awards.

The Division of Student Life will posthumously recognize Doug Skaff Jr. as the recipient of the Outstanding Achievement Award and induct Michael Ellington and Sonja Wilson into the 2025 Hall of Fame during a ceremony beginning at 4 p.m. Monday (Oct. 6) in the Mountainlair Ballrooms.
