Opportunities to broaden the scope of their health care studies and make global connections await West Virginia University’s most recent Gilman Scholars this year in Santarem, Brazil.

Graduates were urged to tap into their inner wisdom and make decisions that align with their passions at West Virginia University’s commencement ceremonies Saturday (Dec. 21).

Top-tier training, research and service opportunities will remain at the forefront for students in the School of Public Health as West Virginia University and the Monongalia County Health Department establish an Academic Health Department, reinforcing the School’s commitment to give students learning experiences based in real-world public health practice.

A barrier-breaking physician and a successful entrepreneur, both natives of West Virginia and graduates of West Virginia University, will provide real-life examples of success for graduates at the University’s December commencement.

The WVU School of Nursing Doctor of Nursing Practice – Nurse Anesthetist program received its accreditation from the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs. The program is the first DNP program for nurse anesthetists in West Virginia and was made possible by a partnership between WVU, West Virginia University Hospitals and University Health Associates.

Students at West Virginia University have the opportunity to enhance their cultural intelligence through the visits of educators, engineers, healthcare workers and urban planners from all over the world who have traveled here for professional development and integration into community life.

West Virginia University has released the Dec. 2019 and May 2020 Commencement schedules.

West Virginia University researcher Steve Davis is piloting an intervention program that uses telehealth to connect rural West Virginians with nurses who can help them manage—and even prevent—conditions like these. The program will focus on individuals being discharged from long-term care facilities as they transition to life back at home.

The West Virginia University School of Nursing today (June 13) announced that its baccalaureate degree, master’s degree, Doctor of Nursing Practice and post-graduate Advanced Practice Registered Nurse certificate programs have been granted accreditation by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education for another 10 years.

West Virginia University President Gordon Gee’s knack for risk-taking is generally well-known, as is his encouragement to students to live lives based on their passions, not their fears. In his weekend (May 10-12) commencement addresses to WVU graduates across campus, Gee urged future risk balanced on what they’ve learned.
