Due to weather conditions, West Virginia University is now scheduled to resume full on-campus operations at noon Tuesday (Dec. 2). This is a two-hour extension of a previously announced delay.

All in-person classes scheduled to begin before noon are canceled. Online classes are continuing as scheduled.

University leaders are asking faculty members and supervisors to provide their students and employees with maximum flexibility due to the winter weather.

WVU Facilities Management Roads and Grounds crews have worked through the night to clear and treat campus roads, parking lots, sidewalks, stairs and other areas ahead of the return to normal operations,” University Police Chief Sherry St. Clair said.

“For safety, we ask everyone to use their best judgment about venturing out as crews continue work to treat roads and other areas.”

Along with campus conditions, University officials have been monitoring weather forecasts from the National Weather Service, and reports from state and local agencies.

As previously announced, employees who work remotely or on a hybrid schedule are not affected and should continue their normal schedule. Hybrid employees typically scheduled on-site during the closure are asked to continue to coordinate with their supervisors to work remotely during the closure.

On-site employees should be communicating with their supervisors to determine if they are required to work on site during the late start.

WVU Health Sciences faculty, staff and students who work in patient care areas or in clinical rotations are reminded to check with their dean, program director or clinic manager.

During the closure, some other University operations may continue with reduced staff and services. Employees, students and visitors should call ahead before venturing out to ensure locations and services are open as conditions may change or services may be limited.

Any additional necessary scheduling or weather updates will be provided through a variety of outlets, including the WVU Safety Notification System, MIX email and students.wvu.edu, ENews email and enews.wvu.edu, and digital signage.

Social media accounts such as @WVUsafety on X, @wvusafetyofficial on Instagram and WVU Safety and Wellness on Facebook will also share updates.

Decisions regarding WVU Institute of Technology and WVU Potomac State College are made separately based on local conditions. WVU Extension will follow its internal inclement weather policy, which can be found here.

The Woodburn Hall Lighting Ceremony will take place as scheduled on Tuesday (Dec. 2) evening.

A WVU Alert is part of the three-tiered WVU Safety Notification System.
