West Virginia University continues to change the lives of West Virginians and people around world through innovative academic programs, life-changing research and other programs geared toward improving our communities.
Students, families, 4-H’ers and alumni are invited to learn more about the exciting programs and engage in hands-on activities during the 2020 WVU Day at the Legislature. The free event, hosted by WVU and WVU Extension Service, is open to the public and will take place at the Capitol in Charleston on Jan. 21, 2020, from 9 a.m. to noon.
The WVU Day at the Legislature will feature interactive displays geared toward helping people engage in “right-brain/left brain” activities. The exhibits include hands-on learning opportunities in neuroscience, STEM, sports, art, culture, health, diversity and more. WVU also will be highlighting various youth camps hosted throughout the state, giving students and families an opportunity to learn more about these unique programs. The event also includes information on career paths, visits with current WVU students, a virtual tour, photo booth and a visit from the Mountaineer mascot.
Additionally, many 4-H’ers will be on hand, as well as representatives from WVU’s colleges/units, to meet state representatives, get a peek into the legislative process and participate in a special recognition by the House and Senate of WVU and WVU Extension programs, including 4-H.
“This is a wonderful way to learn about the legislative process, while also celebrating the many academic programs and resources provided at WVU. We want our young people to envision future career opportunities, hear what college life is like from students, and identify opportunities to participate in one of the many camps held throughout the state, as well as on our various campuses,” said Sue Day-Perroots, interim dean and director, WVU Extension Service. “And, for many families in the Kanawha County area, we understand that students will be out of school, so we invite them to join us at the Day at the Legislature for a fun morning full of unique learning opportunities.”
WVU will have exhibits outside of each chamber hallway near the rotunda area. Attendees can connect to the event via social media using the hashtag #WVUDay2020, and by following @WestVirginiaU and @WVUExtension on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.
