2018 Mountaineer Week kicks off with West Virginia Quilt Documentation Project

The West Virginia Quilt Documentation Project is seeking to record the history of quilts made in, or currently residing in, West Virginia. Individuals who have quilts made prior to 1970 can have their quilts “documented” during Mountaineer Week at the WVU Mountainlair from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Oct. 19 and 20.

WVU researcher delves into cardiovascular effects of vaping

New research led by Mark Olfert, an associate professor in the West Virginia University School of Medicine, suggests if teenagers continue to vape into adulthood, the cardiovascular effects may, by some measures, be as dire as if they’d smoked cigarettes.

Summersville native Sara Bright to exhibit artwork, speak at WVU

Los Angeles-based artist Sara Bright will bring artwork to her home state for the first time with an exhibition and Visiting Artist Lecture at West Virginia University. The lecture will be in the Davis Theatre on opening night, Oct. 11 at 5 p.m. Source is hosted by the Mesaros Galleries in WVU’s School of Art and Design and the exhibition will run through Nov. 9.

WVU physics professor awarded 2019 Hans Christian Oersted Medal

Gay Stewart, Eberly Distinguished Professor of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Education in the Physics and Astronomy Department of the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences and director of the West Virginia University Center for Excellence in STEM Education, is being recognized with the prestigious award, established in 1936, which recognizes an individual who has had an outstanding, widespread and lasting impact on the teaching of physics.
